Among them is a chemical scientist, author of a reference letter on the properties of poppy. It would seem, where is the memorandum on homeopathy of the Commission for Combating Pseudoscience of the Russian Academy of Sciences? And how is the dispute about the effectiveness of the substance in small doses related to the indictment and imprisonment?
100th anniversary of the revolution in the mirror of society (p. 11)Vera Vasilieva; Lev Gudkov, Galina Zvereva, Dmitry Pavlov, Alexander ShubinLast year, many countries around the world celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Russian revolution. What has this anniversary become in our country for historians, society, and the state? Paper magazines: a passing reality? (p. 12)Leonid AshkinaziScientific information for those who are accustomed to receive it is, in the main, already free of charge. For those who want to publish, the situation is similar – there are paid magazines and there are free ones. Editors need money to pay for the production process, but online publishing carries less overhead than paper publications and is often more convenient. As for the paper …

"Here I am, here I am turning into an ant!" (p. 15)Natalia ReznikSpiders are dangerous predators and at the same time a welcome prey for birds, amphibians, reptiles and larger spiders. Ants are different! They do not exceed small spiders in size, while biting, splashing with formic acid and even calling for help if necessary. Therefore, there are relatively few people who want to feast on ants, and many mimic them.
Science in Short Pants (p. 15)Ivan EconomovChildren are what is most sacred and important for us! We need to do everything so that they grow up to be honest, decent, creative and responsible people, and not all slobs and nesses like us. Alas, there are those whose selfish complacency cannot be pierced by any orphan tears. It is these hard-hearted people who begin to swear at the RFBR leadership regarding the distribution of funds between various types of competitions.
One page about the love of cinema (p. 16)Rebekah FrumkinaThe name of the American film "Intimacy" was translated as "Intimacy", which is simply wrong. The usual Russian context of the word "intimacy" is an ad of the type "do not offer intimacy". And the film is about something else. It’s about trying to break through the wall of loneliness – in the absence of better ways – through sex. So here I would translate English. intimacy as "intimacy".
Test pilot of poetry: on the lectures of Mikhail Panov (p. 16)Alexander MarkovThe most common reproach to the humanities – impracticality (a philologist will not become a writer) – does not fit the book of M.V. Panov. The legendary linguist for several generations (1920-2001) explained what needs to be added to the language in order for it to become the language of poetry again. Figures and decorations are needed last: first – accents, accents, the importance of words who can introduce themselves …

What is Russian scientific youth worth? (p. 2)Vyacheslav VdovinAll of us in the regions (and in Moscow as well) have just completed consideration of the best works of our youth at academic councils and have nominated the most worthy ones. The competition announced in your magazine is exclusively for Moscow and only for Muscovites. In reality, this competition is a copy of the academic one, practically the same nominations and the total number of awards, even the requirements for applicants and teams are similar. Emergency rescue system: a brief history (p. 3)Anton PervushinThe accident of the Soyuz-FG rocket in the active section of the trajectory revealed not only the vulnerabilities of modern domestic technologies, but also demonstrated the effectiveness of design solutions adopted in terms of creating emergency rescue systems (the name is usually abbreviated to SAS). Two more second rounds (p. 7)Sergey ShpilkinOf the 22 regions of Russia, where the general elections of governors were held on a single voting day on September 9, it was not possible to choose the winner in the first round in four. Then Filyagin also withdrew from the elections, and the date of the repeat voting was moved by another two weeks …

Constructing Life (p. 9)Yuri UgolnikovIt is known that different scientific disciplines lend themselves to scientific popularization in different ways. For example, it is enough to simply captivate the general public with paleontology, some dinosaurs. And there are also such areas, the interest in which is quite low – they remain mainly the lot of specialists. Probably, this should also include biochemistry, to which the book by Sergei Yastrebov is largely devoted. Some kind of molecules, ions, nitrogenous bases …

Difficult everyday life of candidates for a degree, or make the dissertation council pray to God, he will break his forehead (p. 13)Natalia KirsanovaA couple of years ago, I first heard an interesting story about how a colleague I knew was rewriting her doctoral thesis for a month in order to increase originality. Maybe she turned out to be a malicious plagiarist? No, not at all. The percentage of originality during the check was reduced by her own, publicly available on the Internet, articles in which the materials of the dissertation research were published.
I continue to listen to Dmitry Bykov and Anton Dolin (p. 13)Rebekah FrumkinaFor some time now, I began to regularly watch and listen (in the recording) to Dmitry Bykov’s program "One", which is aired on "Echo of Moscow" usually after midnight. This transmission is constructed primarily as answers to questions and requests from readers. Bykov is never dull or intrusive, so I am interested in his analyzes, even if we are talking about authors alien to me. I listen to Anton Dolin always, when I can find a recording of his performance, even if I “don’t have a chance” to watch the films he mentioned.
Feathers are the mirror of the soul (p. 14)Natalia ReznikBirds do not have facial muscles, but there are emotions, and somehow they must be demonstrated. The most visible part of the animal is the head. In birds, it is all covered with feathers that you can move: there are special muscles for this. Perhaps these movements replace facial expressions for birds. This hypothesis was tested by specialists from the University of Tours under the leadership of Aline Bertin. Their first target was the blue and yellow macaw Ara ararauna.

National project and silence (p. 15)Ivan EconomovSome colleagues are already asking me what happened to the national science project? It seems that he should have been ready by October 1, but to this day there is no information about what is happening with the project. Some citizens even complain that the discussion was held behind the scenes; noteworthy critics begin to say that the silence around the national project is observed for a reason: the expectation of new American sanctions and a fall in oil prices are forcing our leadership to delay the release of information about the parameters of national projects …

Roza Khatskelevich: I want to introduce you to Igor Ivanov – this is what Ilya and I talked about for so long. And … a few rules. Igor immediately told us, when we started organizing the lecture, that I do not want people to sit in the hall, like soldiers, and look at me, listen and … leave. I want people who came to the hall to interrupt me and ask me questions in places where they think it is appropriate.
We liked this idea very much, but now, when we see that so many people have come to the hall, we think: "How can we do this?" And so we decided to let everything go by itself. That is, Igor will speak, we still expect questions from you that will interrupt his speech, but if it turns out that there will be so many questions and Igor cannot continue his speech, then we reserve the right to somehow organize this spontaneous process.
